Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (Blu-ray)

All right, next up on the Max Max marathon agenda, we’ve got what I consider to be the Saturday morning cartoon outing of the franchise 😁😂😎 This movie is so utterly bonkers, so completely over the top, that it just barely borders on parody, but doesn’t quite transition over. It took the more bonkers aspects of The Road Warrior and turned it all up to 11, where over the top performances, costumes, characters and locations acoustic, ever cheesy, ever more post apocalyptic, that sweet, sweet Mel Gibson mullet, and of course, Tina Turner has in all her glory. I like a lot about this flick, but it’s easily my least favorite of the series. While there’s a lot of fun action, a brisk sense of momentum, and an overall manic energy, overall I find myself rarely revisiting this one. The incredibly annoying trope of groups 80’s kids having literally ANYTHING to do with the films plot returns with a vengeance. It’s beyond annoying. As in, almost ruining the film even going in expecting it annoying. Everything feels a little goofy, like Miller was given just a little too much freedom. Overall, still a lot of fun. How did you like this final entry in the Gibson led films? Let’s chat below!
