The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Blu-ray)

All right, its the first few hours of my weekend, I thought it was the perfect time to spotlight some wholesome family fun with another episode of who did it better, remake/original series?! Up for your consideration is Tobe Hooper’s seminal horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre or the Marcus Nispel fronted 2003 remake. It may come as a surprise to many, but this is a closer call for me than one might expect. The original is a textbook example of low budget, high yield atmospheric horror. Very little is shown, but the film is absolutely terrifying all the same, with some of the most nail biting moments in horror. Of course we have to mention the creation of the now iconic and still tough to top villain, Leatherface himself. The remake is also excellent in its own right, with an unnerving and much more overly brutal atmosphere, and an unsettling tone all its own. While the film sticks to the overall premise of the original, the slight changes, circumstantial variations, and of course, a healthy dose of slick 21st century gore, all add to a very different beast. While the cast is as interchangeable as any previously seen horror film, mostly fodder for the clever kills, Jessica Biel does a solid job filling enormous shoes as her own brand of lone survivor/final girl. I love this one. BUT WHICH FILM COMES OUT ON TOP??? I’d have to give a slight (surprisingly so!) edge to the iconic 1974 original. It’s just got a little something more, and no matter how good a job Biel did, Marylin Burn’s Sally will always be one of my all time favorite horror performances. So naturally I must ask you all... THE ORIGINAL OR THE REMAKE??? WHY??? Let’s chat below! I hope you’re all having a fantastic Easter or just a relaxing Sunday
