Time for a quick little horror double feature shot to start off the post work day, this time focusing on two of my absolute favorites from the last few years. First up, we have the vampire laden, drug fueled psychological gore fest, Bliss. Next, there’s the heavy metal serial killer possession gem, The Devil’s Candy. Both films are dark, atmospheric, and at times genuinely unnerving. They each have a talented cast that evoke strong emotional reactions. In the case of Bliss, main character Dezzy’s gradual, hallucinogenic descent into all out primal barbarism is anxiety inducing, stomach churning, and all around the best kind of messed up I can imagine. I can’t say enough good things about actress Dora Madison. She’s intense, sensual, wonderfully emotive, and absolutely committed to every moment on screen. The Devil’s Candy is led by a similarly “all in” turn from the consistently excellent Ethan Embry. Seriously. Did anyone see him in the newest Twilight Zone season? Fantastic stuff. One thing I loved about this one was the unusually authentic family dynamics at play, giving the actual demonic proceedings and their fallout much more dramatic weight. You know... because I actually cared about the characters. A phenomenal blend of several sub genres of horror, I just keep coming back for more, year after year. Oh. And heavy metal. Lots and lots of heavy metal. Huge fan of both of these, and I can’t wait to see what both Joe Begos and Sean Byrne come up with next 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🧛♀️🧛♀️🧛♀️ @shoutfactory
