Blood Quantum (Blu-ray)

Hey again everyone! I hope you’re all having a killer day. I just returned home from work to this beauty on the doorstep, and I’m beyond stoked. I loved this film instantly, and imported the Canadian edition because I just had to have that sexy slip, which unfortunately the Shudder U.S. release was lacking. For anyone interested, I’ll post my original review below: Blood Quantum is a remarkably fresh and unique feeling take on the tired and shuffling undead horror genre. The title of the film is born from the Blood Quantum laws of the United States, which dictated a persons indigenous status based on the percentage of their native ancestral heritage. This film takes place on the Canadian Red Crow Indian Reserve, and follows a group of members of the Mi’gmaq tribe as they battle both the outbreak of a worldwide plague of the undead, themselves and their people seemingly the only ones immune to the outbreak, as well as the last remnants from a wasteland of desperate survivors. I can’t even begin to say how much I loved this one. From the moment it began, the atmosphere, the feeling of simmering dread, of a mysterious yet thrumming tension all around is palpable. This film has STYLE. The way it utterly flips the paradigm of an age old history of injustice, making a people long relegated to the fringes of their own ancestral homes become the only saviors of the very same people that pushed them to the brink. Absolutely immaculately done. As a genre film, it’s packed to the brim with superb practical gore (seriously, this is FANTASTIC work), with a consistently thrilling, anxiety inducing rhythm that moves expertly and seamlessly between slower, moodier moments, and fits of outright terror. I loved the characters, and the performances were solid to great across the board. There’s really isn’t anything here I have to complain about. Loved it, through and through! @tripgore
