Timeline (Blu-ray)

Recently, I’ve been trying to throw on a few light hearted, simpler films into the rotation to balance out my usual horror/thriller/downright disturbing choices that I tend to lean towards. I distinctly remember seeing Timeline when it came out during an early morning matinee by myself on a quiet weekend showing, had a lot for fun with it, and promptly completely forgot about its existence for almost 20 years 😂🤣🤘As I was browsing for goodies several weeks back, I came across this beauty for a sub budget price, and had to take a chance. I’m glad I did, because just like last time around it was an absolute blast. Silly, over the top, tonally all over the place, even outright goofy at times, it would be easy to dismiss this as a big budget failures of epic proportions... and it is... but it’s also a fun 😅 Paul Walker plays his literal SoCal surfer self, a fresh faced, young Gerard Butler already showing his uncanny ability to elevate garbage material, the desperate attempts from thespian David Thewlis to bring some sense of gravitas and dramatic heft to his scenes... the cast is so earnest in their execution of the silliest premise ever... and let’s not forget the presence of the legendary Billy Connolly, who is... less than his best here 😂 This is one of the definitive badgood sci-fi tinged time travel yarns out there, and I recommend it for a simple good time!
