1911 Roman Numeral V Nickel

The “V” Nickel was used from 1883 to 1913. The word cents was not originally on the coin and it was common for counterfeiters to plate them with gold and pass them off for five dollar coins. The design was cancelled in 1913 and only five were struck with the 1913 date. In 2010, one of the nickels sold for $3,737,500.
