The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - CIB - Nintendo 64

Item image

Having spent quite a bit of time playing through Super Mario Odyssey, I noticed things that reminded me of another game, and it wasn’t a previous Mario title as you would expect. Strangely enough it was Majora’s Mask. When you think that Koizumi had a big role in both games, maybe the similarities aren’t a coincidence. Let me know in the comments if you think I’m reaching, or if you’ve discovered more connections between these seemingly disparate worlds. ・・・ 1. The Shiverians of Snow Kingdom roll, bounce and even make sounds similar to the Gorons of Snowhead. Both games also have fast paced races where you control those characters. ・・・ 2. In the Lost Kingdom Mario comes across Klepto, a bird that steals Cappy. Just like the Takkuri in Termina Field who steals Links items and sword. ・・・ 3. Several times Mario gets asked by a Sphynx 5 questions about that kingdom. Link meets 3 tailed foxes called Keatons who also asks him 5 questions about different people and locations. ・・・ 4. Red flowers called Hat Trampolines launch Mario into the air. Deku Link can burrow into Deku Flowers that also launch him into the air. ・・・ 5. “Cappy captures” send Mario into the minds of various characters and he’s able to use their abilities. Mask transformations turn Link into specific characters and like Mario, he gains new abilities. In both games, the transformations are treated in a horror way. ・・・ 6. Wearing different costumes gets Mario different responses from NPCs. The same thing happens to Link when he wears the non transforming masks. ・・・ 7. Giant eels exist in both games. In the Seaside Kingdom they’re called Maw-Rays. At Pinnacle Rock they’re called Deep Pythons. There’s an argument that both games copied the Unagi from Super Mario 64 (which was also a Koizumi game). ・・・ 8. Both games revolve around a moon. Both have final confrontations with their respective bosses on the moon. Mario even collects moons. ・・・ 9. Both have extra terrestrial moments. Mario sees Yoofoes and Link fights off aliens at Romani Ranch. ・・・ 10. Mario is able to teleport to checkpoint flags. Link uses owl statues. Both have similar animations of the hero shooting off and disappearing into the sky. 😅
