The language of retro collecting, explained

Retro collecting has its own vocabulary. Conversations in forums, listings on marketplaces, and grading reports use shorthand that's second nature to experienced collectors – but can be confusing if you're newer to the hobby.

This glossary covers the terms you'll encounter on Golisto and across the wider retro collecting world. Bookmark it. You'll use it.

    CIB (Complete in Box)

    1

    A grading term indicating that an item includes all original components: box, cartridge or disc, manual, and any additional inserts.

  • E term

    Escrow (Payment hold)

    On Golisto, payment is held securely after a buyer pays and is not released to the seller until delivery is confirmed. Funds are released within 5–7 business days of confirmed delivery.

  • R term

    Repro / Reproduction

    An unofficial copy of an original game cartridge designed to look like the real thing. Must be clearly disclosed in listings.

  • T term

    Trade protection

    Golisto's integrated system covering both buyer and seller in every transaction.

  • V term

    Verified seller

    A seller whose identity has been confirmed through Golisto's ID verification process.

Anti-snipe

An automatic auction extension that triggers when a bid is placed in the final seconds of a listing. Prevents last-second sniping and gives all bidders a fair chance to respond. Golisto auctions use anti-snipe by default.

B
B01

BIN (Buy It Now)

A fixed-price purchase option that allows a buyer to purchase immediately at the seller's stated price, bypassing any auction format.

B02

Boxed

An item that includes its original box. Does not necessarily mean all contents such as manual or inserts are present. See also: CIB.

C01

CIB (Complete in Box)

Key

A grading term indicating that an item includes all original components: box, cartridge or disc, manual, and any additional inserts.

C02

Cartridge

The physical game format used by Nintendo, Sega, and other platforms prior to the optical disc era.

D
D01

Disc

The optical media format used by PlayStation, Dreamcast, and other 5th and 6th generation consoles.

E
E01

Escrow (Payment hold)

Key

F01

FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)

A buying pattern in which collectors make purchase decisions out of anxiety about a price rising or an item becoming unavailable.

F02

For Parts / Not Working (FPNW)

A condition grade indicating that an item has known faults affecting function.

G01

Grading

The process of assessing and categorising the condition of a retro item. See Golisto's full grading guide at /knowledge-hub/condition-grading/.

L
L01

Loose

A grading term indicating that an item is sold without its original box or manual. Cartridge or disc only.

M
M01

Manual

The instruction booklet included with original game releases. A key component for CIB grading.

N
N01

NOS (New Old Stock)

An item that has never been used or opened, but was not necessarily factory-sealed.

N02

NTSC

The video standard used in North America and Japan. See also: PAL.

P
P01

PAL

The video standard used in Europe and Australia. PAL games and consoles are the European collector's primary market.

P02

PCB (Printed Circuit Board)

The electronic board inside a cartridge or console. PCB condition and markings can help verify authenticity.

R
R01

Repro / Reproduction

Key

An unofficial copy of an original game cartridge designed to look like the real thing. Must be clearly disclosed in listings.

S
S01

Sealed

An item in its original, unopened factory packaging with the original seal intact. The highest condition grade.

S02

Seller protection

On Golisto, sellers are protected against fraudulent buyer claims. All disputes are reviewed by the trust team.

S03

Shipping label

On Golisto, a pre-paid shipping label is generated automatically when a sale is confirmed.
