Star Wars Revenge of The Sith (Blu-ray + 4K UHD)

Hey everyone! So, given that I’ve been lagging on my Star Wars franchise reviews, and today is the 15th anniversary of the very next entry in the marathon, I thought I’d write up my thoughts on the final episode in Lucas’s highly divisive prequel trilogy, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. I’ve truly loved this film from the moment I walked out of the theater on opening day. Having grown up on the original trilogy, and having sat through the first two episodes to varying degrees of enjoyment, my hopes weren’t particularly high for the trilogy capper. Needless to say, from the first moments of the epic opening battle over the skies of Coruscant, to Anakin’s slow, tragic, and anxiety inducing shift towards the dark side, to the consistently jaw dropping world building/digital effects, and a devastating, phenomenally executed final hour that is some of the greatest Star Wars moments of the entire series, this film has it all. Sure, we are still subjected to Christiansen’s uneven turn as Anakin, with him swinging wildly from awkward and stiff, to menacing, and eventually heartbreaking, it’s a bit of a roller coaster ride, but not one without its charms. Don’t forget those classic scenes showcasing the notorious and still cringe worthy “chemistry” between Hayden and Natalie Portman’s Senator Amidala, better known as barefoot and pregnant lady who frets in this episode. I could quibble about a number of small things here and there, but those issues pale in comparison to what was done right. The final battle and events on Mustafar are still some of the most beautiful and soul crushing moments the series has to offer, maybe the most, on a viscerally emotional level. I’ll never forget the gut wrenching feeling of pain I felt for Obi-Won as he delivered those final desperate words to his fallen friend, or the sound of Padme’s voice upon her final realization that her love had turned to the dark. Heartbreaking and powerful. Revenge of the Sith is easily one of my favorites of franchise and does a lot to redeem the prequels as a whole. 9/10. Damn near a masterpiece. What about all of you? Are you fans of Revenge of the Sith?
