I instantly fell in love with Killer Instinct the minute I first saw it in the arcades. For me, it represents the pinnacle of fighting game both in aesthetics, design and music. The gameplay is maybe not as profound as other genre standards though. But everything else is so flashy and over the top that I couldn’t resist its appeal. At that time I didn’t have a SNES yet, so when I saw this Game Boy conversion in store, I was stunned: somehow I never heard about it before, even in the video game magazines I bought regularly. This port is good, it retains most of the features of the original, and is fun to play. Note that unlike any other fighting game on this console, Killer Instinct was mostly developed by some of the staff that worked on the arcade version: it might be the most faithful arcade-to-Game Boy conversion that exists, from a developer perspective.
