Here is the new 4.5” Battle Feature Charizard Figure by @wickedcooltoys. It’s the first to be released in the 3rd wave of their Pokémon line. As with all Battle Feature figures, this Charizard has a battle gimmick that appeals to kids. Charizard can spit out a fireball projectile from its mouth when you lean him forward. To date, Charizard is the best in the line’s projectile shooting figures. The fireball fits nicely inside Charizard’s throat and hides inside his mouth when not in use. This is a huge improvement over the line’s poorly executed Decidueye because it triggers the shot with a specific movement and allows the figure to display nicely. The sculpt is pretty nice, capturing Charizard’s proportions quite well. Paint-wise, the eyes are nice and sharp, the white nails are pretty clean as is the flame of his tail, and only a bit of fuzziness around the belly edges are bothersome. I do find a big issue with the blue under his wings. The soft rubber-like plastic of his wings in that hue of orange allows the dark blue to show through on the other side. It makes the back of the wings darker and gives them an appearance of a mismatched orange. I don’t know what a good solution could have been for this, but perhaps a coat of white primer under that dark blue could have stopped some of that darkness from showing through. There are four articulation points, rotation at the shoulders, and hinges at the bases of his wings. I do think his shoulders could have benefited from ball joints to allow for a bit more range of poses and perhaps give his tail a pivot joint to allow rotation on its end. Overall, this Charizard looks great and is awesome for play or display in very limited poses, however, the darkness of the back of his wings and the fuzziness around his belly could be bothersome for some.
