Decidueye Battle Feature figure WCT Figure

Let’s look at the final @wickedcooltoys 4” Battle Feature figure from the Pokemon S1 wave, Decidueye. It is modeled after the move “Spirit Shackle” in which Decidueye produces an arrow, grabs his left string creating a bow and shoots the arrow. It is a really cool move and this figure’s gimmick. Like all other projectile shooting toys, the figure is fixed with a mechanism that shoots the arrow. In this case, a spring loaded cannon. Unfortunately, the cannon is simply attached to his left wing making it unsightly. Further irritating is the fact that there’s no button or movement that will shoot the arrow. You just have to stick your finger behind the cannon and nudge the arrow to get it to shoot. The sculpt of the figure recreates the art quite well with the exception of its right hand which is clenched in a fist rather than a pinch which is how Decidueye holds the arrow and string. The fist up against his cheek not holding anything looks really odd. The left string is also hanging rather than clenched in his left hand to create the bow. Interestingly WCT decided to give this figure articulation at his shoulders, which is useless given that Decidueye’s hood and strings severely limit the movements and moving them actually makes the figure look odd. These articulations could have been given to Ash instead! This is perhaps the best painted figure of all the 4” figures in S1 with just a few minor misaligned details here and there. All in all this figure represents a lot of odd decisions but gives us hope for the future in terms of paint application. Though it is nicely posed and painted, this figure half-fails at doing what it’s supposed to do by lazily attaching a cannon to the wing without a push button or figure movement to shoot the arrow but furthermore displays terribly due to the exposed cannon and odd fist. The cannon could have been hidden inside the wing or in his fist and sculpted the way the art shows him without the useless articulation. I give this figure 2 out of 5 stars, you won’t miss it if you pass on it!
