Let’s splash into the next NTC Review. Today we look into the @wickedcooltoys Blastoise Battle Feature figure. Will this guy blast into your collection or will he drip down the gutter? Let’s find out! In the package, this hefty guy looks pretty impressive, tightly packed in as if he’s itching to come out. Out of the package he’s quite big and impressive. His sculpt is there. Everything about him looks great from his feet to his cannons. Sculpts have always been a strong point in this line. Though this fact is often overshadowed by bad paint applications and unfortunately, Blastoise suffers where it’s most evident, on his nails which come with paint loss at the tips. This is something you see in used figures but it’s disappointing to see in a new figure. It’s not a battle feature figure without a cool gimmick and this guy has a double whammy. He can shoot his Hydro Cannon’s at the push of his tail. He simultaneously opens his mouth which has been a single function of previous battle feature figures. It’s fun to shoot the cannons but it’s another level of fun to make him sing along to TLC’s “Waterfalls.” What’s most impressive is the level of articulation afforded to this figure. His arms and legs are on ball joints which allow him to rotate and pivot in a variety of ways with some limits. This figure represents a nice compromise between gimmick and articulation which has been a constant source of frustration with adult collectors. I don’t mind either and have been a supporter of an approach that encompasses both or even dual lines for this scale. Hopefully we see more like this in the future. Overall, this is an outstanding figure with paint application mishaps that draw it back from being a perfect figure. I give this guy 4 out of 5 stars, get it, you’ll be happy with it!
