Pokémon Gold is the second generation of the Pokémon series and one of the most beloved games in the entire franchise. Released in 2000 for the GameBoy Color, Gold introduced the Johto region with 100 new Pokémon, an innovative day/night system, and the ability to travel back to Kanto — two regions, 16 badges, and a post-game that is bigger than most competitors’ main games. What makes Pokémon Gold special: 100 new Pokémon and two full regions — Johto and Kanto Day/night system that affects which Pokémon you encounter and when Real-time clock that counts actual days, weeks, and seasons Ho-Oh as the legendary Pokémon Link Cable trading and battles with Pokémon Silver Pokémon Gold or Silver? The two games are nearly identical with a few exclusive Pokémon as the primary difference. Gold has Spinarak, Gligar, Teddiursa, and Mantine — Silver has Ledyba, Delibird, Skarmory, and Wooper. The legendary Pokémon are Ho-Oh in Gold and Lugia in Silver. Practical information: The game is delivered as a loose cartridge — manual not included. Since the game is used, any keys and codes may have been used previously. The battery has not been replaced — Pokémon Gold saves via an internal CR2025 battery which, in many 2000 copies, has been exhausted and can no longer save. The battery can be replaced with a small screwdriver and a new CR2025 battery for a few crowns. The Gold cartridge works in GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advance, and GameBoy Advance SP — not in the original black GameBoy.
