Whew!!! After all of that ominous, apocalyptic sci-fi horror of the last few hours, I thought I’d wind down the first day of the year with Mid 90’s, the directorial debut of Jonah Hill, and easily one of my favorite movies of 2018, and the last few years. I must make it quite clear that this film seemed to be tailor made specifically for me. I was born in the last days of 86, so the 90’s were my playground, and this movie hit me in all of the feels in so many ways, with an intensity I rarely experience. Of course the “period” recreation was incredibly nostalgic and immaculate, but what this movie really nailed was the “feeling” of growing up in that time. There was technology, but it hadn’t taken over every facet of our lives. There were cell phones, but the one that matter most was “the phone.” Dial up internet, if you had it at all. You guys get the point. The performances were achingly authentic, and I hope to see all of those kids have bright futures. When all is said and done, this one just worked for me on every level, and one I will definitely be revisiting regularly in the future. What about all of you? How did you like it?
