So after being initially mixed about pretty much every aspect of this film upon first viewing, I decided it was time to revisit this Gunn family passion project. Sadly, not much of my opinion has changed from my initial viewing. All in all, I found the majority of its most intriguing ideas were undercooked. The fact that they went all in on the horror elements was excellent, but the concept wasn’t taken far enough. The gore, where it exists, is top notch, but there wasn’t wasn’t enough of it. The characters were carbon copies of their origin inspiration, so that was a bit of a missed opportunity. The story was pure origin, so... not very much happens. It’s an intriguing setup for a future film that may or may not happen. Id say that overall there was a lot to love, but I was only able to focus on the meteoric potential of this premise, and how this one seemed to just missed the mark. I was stoked to see the awesome cameo of a familiar character from a previous James Gunn film, thereby taking the Unbreakable route and backdooring Brightburn into a potential cinematic universe. I really, REALLY hope to see more, but this one gets decent marks for its potential, lots of points off for execution
