Okay, so next up on the agenda is the newest edition of remake or original? This time around we are zeroing in on last year’s retooling is the 1990 supernatural slasher classic, Child’s Play. When the Child’s Play remake was originally announced, I rolled my eyes like most of us did, and quickly dismissed it as the newest attempt to milk a little more life (or death?) out of a classic horror franchise. Of course, once it was announced that none other than legendary Joker mastermind Mark Hamill would be voicing Chucky, suddenly I was more than intrigued. I was one of those who actually really appreciated the new take on the lore. I’m not a fan of remakes being a carbon copy of the original, and this film pulled out all the stops to be reverential, but still create a new identity for itself. I actually think it’s one of the better remakes out there. Of course... it still doesn’t hold a candle to the original Child’s Play. Chucky will always be Brad Dourif to me, and the 80’s slasher vibe, unrelenting tension and genuinely awesomely staged kills, it’s tough to top. As far as I’m concerned there’s room for both, but I’ll admit I can’t wait to see if that Chucky TV series ever does continue the original lore. How about all of you? Child’s Play or Child’s Play? Sound off!
