The Punisher (Blu-ray)

Just mixing up the proceedings a bit with this pre-MCU Marvel appreciation post, featuring our very favorite homicidal anti-hero, The Punisher! Frank Castle has had a fascinating tenure in the live action realm. Not only is he one of the longest running and most adapted live action Marvel characters, but to these eyes, is also one of the most consistently enjoyable. Each and every incarnation has something to love. The Dolph Lundgren fronted original film has all the glorious, gritty insanity of the best 80’s action faire. The early 2000’s Thomas Jane incarnation was a near pitch perfect take on the character, with a memorable and underrated villain in Travolta’s gleefully unhinged Howard Saint, fantastic violence, and was just a killer film all around. I watch that one the most, and for the longest time it was my favorite take on Frank Castle. That said, Ray Stevenson embodied what has become many avid Punisher fan’s favorite version, fronting one of the all time craziest, goriest, most over the top comic adaptation, the gloriously self aware Punisher War Zone. I still think Jigsaw takes the cake for one the best, most formidable Marvel villains. Not pictured of course, is my personal favorite Punisher, the Jon Bernthal Netflix Frank Castle. Perhaps it was the extended format, the intense and fleshed out performance, or just the stories surrounding him, but as of now I think he’s the best of the best Punisher around. Whew! Now that I’ve got that out, what about all of you? WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE VERSION OF THE PUNISHER? YOUR FAVORITE FILM? Let me know! collection

  • segaThe Mega Drive Is the Smartest Way to Start a Sega CollectionPick up a PAL copy of Streets of Rage 2 and the case still snaps shut the way it did in 1992. That one detail – Sega shipping games in hard plastic clamshells while Nintendo was still using cardboard – is half the argument for the Mega Drive as your first serious Sega collection. The other half: this was Europe's 16-bit machine, and today's PAL supply reflects it. Sega won Europe with the Mega Drive in a way it never managed in Japan. For a collector, that dominance means abundance: consoles, l
