Anyone else remember this killer “superhero” double feature based on the famed dark comic series Kick-Ass??? I remember when the original film was first announced I had quite literally just read a good chunk of the comic run, after having been shown the series by a friend. I was utterly hooked from the first panel, and naturally given the talent behind the camera, I had high hopes. In the end, they were well rewarded, and the original Kick-Ass is still one of my top the comic films ever. It was pretty much perfect in my eyes, with flawless casting, dark humor, shocking violence, and an overall sense of giddiness about the proceedings. Kick-Ass 2 was certainly a step backwards, and it seemed like they didn’t really have much of a story to tell, but needed to get a movie out. The instant chemistry of the cast present in the first film is lacking, as are the laughs by comparison, but this is still a lot of fun and a worthy, if lesser follow up. I know there will never be another film with this cast and crew, but I would love to see a revival, possibly as a long form streaming series??? There’s still a lot to do with this property, and it would be a shame if they let it lie. I’d also be down for a James Gunn led reboot with a Crimson Bolt crossover 😎😎😎🤘🤘🤘
