Deep Rising (Blu-ray)

Okay, next up on the agenda to round out the weekend we have the most recent film section for my under(or in this case, over)water film kick series that I’ve been on for the last few days. This time around we have the late nineties monster movie mega gem, Deep Rising. I won’t pretend that this is some long lost, absolute must see cult classic that needs to be in everyone’s collection yesterday. What I will say is that it’s a hell of a lot of fun with the right expectations. This is 90’s cheese galore, but there’s an earnestness and full and complete commitment to the at times rather silly proceeds. With a fast pace and genuinely thrilling sense of momentum, it’s hard not to just run with it and enjoy the ride. There are even some light scares here and there. I can’t quite put my finger on why this movie works, but it does. Fun kills, over the top performances, a very era specific tone, I just can’t help but want to revisit this one at least once a year. Treat Williams always was a little awkward in the leading man roles, but he did as solid a job as he ever would in this sci-fi cult... favorite? 😂😅🤘Any other Deep Rising fan?
