Overlord (Blu-ray)

Ahhh Overlord. This film is truly the definition of promise without payoff. WWII and zombies. Abrams. Solid cast. Reasonable budget. So why didn’t I like this one as much as I wanted to? Well, the fact that it takes half of the running time before it actually hits the ground sprinting is a good place to start. While the film is solid from a technical standpoint, and the performances are certainly far from bad, there really wasn’t much to invest in. The characters are pretty much one note, the pacing is a bit languid, and the aforementioned zombies being conspicuously absent for the bulk of the run time doesn’t do the movie any favors. These are a few of the many issues I had. I wasn’t bored per se... but I was rarely excited. This one that had everything going for it, and for me, was a bit of a misfire. Solid C- overall.
