So work is done for the day, and I’ll be spending the afternoon relaxing and catching up on Jordan Peele’s first season of Twilight Zone (so far, it’s decent but not blowing my mind), since the second just dropped and I feel way too far behind 😂 I’m a lifelong fan of Twilight Zone and and have been similarly a fan of Jordan Peele since his days in Key and Peele, so I hope season 2 hits a little harder than this one has so far. I really don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that Get Out is a modern horror/thriller masterpiece and will only grow in prestige over time. There’s really nothing I can say that hasn’t been said far more eloquently elsewhere, so I’ll just name it a favorite of the decade. As for Us... it was okay. I enjoyed a lot of it. As a multi layered, ambitious, measured twilight-zone esque horror experience, it was a kind of success. Peele has definitely revealed himself to be an essential voice for the genre, and I don’t think anyone can argue that. I liked what he attempted to do with this one, and I also like that he didn’t try to repeat himself after the sky high success of his debut. All of that said... this was a bit of a mess. The characters and performances were all over the place (seriously... the silly voice... did anyone watch the film before putting it out? 😂🤣😅), and don’t even get me started on the plot... holes? Illogicalities? Silliness? I can’t imagine most watching didn’t see the “twist” at the end coming after 15 minutes, and everything felt a little too contrived without the payoff. All in all, a decent enough watch but not a favorite. It definitely played better the second time around, so I suppose we’ll see how I feel in another few years. HOW ABOUT ALL OF YOU? ARE YOU A FAN OF JORDAN PEELE? HOW DID YOU LIKE US? IF YOU’VE SEEN GET OUT, HOW DO YOU COMPARE THE TWO? Let’s chat below!
