Flatliners (Blu-ray)

Alright, next up we’ve got another episode of remake or original? This time the spotlight is shining on Flatliners. The original is a solid little horror/thriller gem directed by the late Joel Schumacher, and sports an absolutely stellar ensemble cast of performers who have gone on to become industry legends. It’s got a great atmosphere, and that early 90’s, not quite done with the 80’s feel that I love so much. It’s a great flick, and one I grew up watching. Naturally, like most remakes of these smaller tier cult horror flicks, I questioned the need at all for another go at Frequency, but was pleasantly surprised with what we got. A solid cast headed by the always charming and intense Ellen Page, with a sleek, well shot, also quite atmospheric tone, there was a lot to like. The story hits most of the same beats, and it’s in essence the same film with a modern coat of paint. Totally unnecessary, but I’m glad I picked it up. What did you all think? Which of these is your preferred version?
