Saturn 3 (Blu-ray)

All right everyone, I think it’s high time I dig into the vault for another classic 80’s sci-fi horror(ish) film, Saturn 3. This movie is mostly awesome due to the fact fact that it stars a late era Kirk Douglas, absolutely decimating the proceedings with his trademark indomitable charisma. Seriously, it boggles my mind how he was able to elevate an otherwise run of the mill, in many ways already quite passé even by for the time. It feels like a movie smack dab in the middle of two worlds. On the one hand, it’s got that classic 50’s sci-fi feel, with the big performances and clunky effects. On the other hand, it’s got the fearless ambition and... cheesy effects that are a big part of what I love about low to mid budget 80’s faire of any genre. Basically, you get the most medium awesome of both eras (it would be a stretch to say the best 😂) that really do give this one a very specific personality. Very excited to revisit this one, it’s been a good while
