1BR + The Taking

Hello again everyone!!! It’s a warm Tuesday afternoon over here in sunny California, and naturally that means I’m hunkered down in my living room with the air conditioner blasting and all of the windows drawn. It’s in this simulated perpetual night that I plan on digging into these two brand new pickups for the vault. First up we have the vastly under seen found footage horror gem The Taking of Deborah Logan, and I can hardly even contain my excitement at finally being able to own a copy. I’ve been trumpeting this one for years now, and despite being an unapologetic found footage horror nut, I can say with confidence that it’s excellent, whether you’re into the style or not. From the start, every frame just oozes atmosphere, tension, and anxiety, gradually escalating over the course of the proceedings into unadulterated mayhem. The performances are some of the best I’ve seen in a found footage flick, and there was a quite clever use of the main premise of mental illness as a gateway to possession, without being icky or too exploitive. All around, it’s a fantastic film that more people need to see. Next up, 1 BR is a blind buy I have little to say about yet, but one that I’ve heard nothing but great things about so far. I’ve tried to avoid any trailers or detailed reviews, relying on the premise and word of mouth to influence my impulse buy, so we will see how it goes 😅 Anyone a fan of either?
