Darkness + Below Miramax Dobule Feature (Blu-ray)

Hello, good morning, and happy Saturday everyone! The coffee is brewing, I’m hunkering down with the AC on full blast, blackout curtains drawn, and the newest episodes of Twilight Zone on to start my morning off right. It’s going to be another hot one today, although it won’t be as bad as yesterday where temperatures peaked in the mid 90’s. That’s hot, I don’t care where you’re from! 🔥I thought I’d start off today’s movie marathon by highlighting one of the goodies from yesterday’s early Christmas, the sub marine supernatural horror gem Below. Directed by David Twohy, who many may know as the creator of the Riddick character in Pitch Black, this is some top tier spooky underwater excellence through and through. The film shares a similar love of dark, confined spaces as its immediate predecessor, but instead of toying with the conceit, the film fully embraced the dark and claustrophobic. This is one atmospheric experience, and the committed cast sell the slow descent into darkness, insanity, and wall to wall paranoia with a supernatural chemistry. Not a lot of people remember this one, which is a shame, as I rank it right up there with the best underwater films. It’s got the best parts of haunted house, slasher, war, and mystery genres, and although there are a lot patchwork to pull it all together, it really does gel. Anyone else a fan of Below? What’s your favorite aquatic horror film? Also, since we’re here, has anyone seen the companion movie on this release, Darkness? It sounds fun... but it’s also got epically terrible reviews 😂

  • segaThe Mega Drive Is the Smartest Way to Start a Sega CollectionPick up a PAL copy of Streets of Rage 2 and the case still snaps shut the way it did in 1992. That one detail — Sega shipping games in hard plastic clamshells while Nintendo was still using cardboard — is half the argument for the Mega Drive as your first serious Sega collection. The other half: this was Europe's 16-bit machine, and today's PAL supply reflects it. Sega won Europe with the Mega Drive in a way it never managed in Japan. For a collector, that dominance means abundance: consoles, l
