So since I’ve decided to descend into the dark abyss that is Hayden Christensen’s black hole of uneven performances, I thought I might as well showcase one of the few films I’ve seen him in that kind of, sort of make me understand what people saw in him. Yes, I do mean that in past tense, as the dude certainly doesn’t have suitors from the industry breaking down his door at the moment 😂 Jumper was one of those awesome sci-fi book adaptations from the mid to late 2000’s that preceded the enormous wave of YA novel films, with their franchise baiting and half finished ideas, but doesn’t have a lot of the same weakness many of those films do. It’s standalone (despite there being several books), high concept, with solid special effects for the time and a brisk, action packed pace. I loved the concept, and found Hayden’s performance to be surprisingly effective. I do wish this one had done well enough financially and garnered enough interest for a follow up, but I’m sure someone like Amazon or Netflix will pick up the rights one day and do a 9 season planned “limited” series that will get canceled after two 😂 Anyone else remember this fun little action sci-fi one off?
