Just a couple of recent pickups while out and about in that big dark world. First up we have the 4K Target exclusive edition (the standard 4K release came without a slipcover!!! 😡) of Pixar’s woefully underrated and under seen fantasy epic Onward. There are few words that could aptly summarize just how much I loved this movie, but I’ll start with beautiful. Visually, thematically, and emotionally, Onward is one the most beautiful animated film I’ve seen in years. Add to it the fact that I’m both a massive metal head, and a huge nerd to boot, this film seems like it was tailor made specifically for me. All of the references to Magic the Gathering, D&D, fantasy tropes, heavy metal inside jokes, and of course, the epic hero’s journey. With it’s focus on family, connection, and noble ambition, to me, this was the perfect film. A few of the dynamics between the brothers hit incredibly close to home, and though I was an emotional, blubbering wreck by the end, it was more than worth it. Too bad I had to watch it on buggy Disney + and had to restart it at least 5 times throughout. Super stoked to own it. Next up... we have Birds of Prey... I don’t know why I do this to myself. I really don’t even like this franchise... and yet I own them all. Why? I don’t know. Maybe this one will be good? Shazam was great. They might be figuring things out? Ughhh. Should be interesting 😅🤔😬 How did you all like these films??? What are some of your recent buys? Let’s chat!
