Halloween 2 (Blu-ray)

All right everyone, next up we’ve got the second film in my Halloween marathon, and this time around we’ve got Halloween II, where we get... more of the night he came home! I’ll just be upfront and say it... this is not my favorite Halloween film. In fact... it’s flat out my least favorite outside of the Zombie flicks 😅 Now, to be clear, that isn’t to say I hate the film (only one entry in this marathon earns that honor, and it’s waaaaaay down the line), but it isn’t one I consistently revisit, and I most definitely skip it during the odd franchise marathon. While the film certainly has all of the elements to be a worthy follow up to the classic original, I think that this movie has a hard time recapturing anything even approaching the sense of tension and atmosphere from the original. I found Laurie Strode’s (and Jamie Lee Curtis by extension) character to be unbelievably let down by having her literally sidelined in a freaking hospital bed for almost the entire duration of the proceedings. By my measure, Loomis has always been a little bit of a mediocre character overall, and this was an early example of his increasing mania and over the top performances. The music was amazing, there was the odd exciting kill, and of course, Myers is always a classy to see on screen. All in all, this one is the flat out bottom of the original chronology for me, but still manages I excite and thrill on occasion. I think the main issue was filmmaker Rick Rosenthall’s direction. It’s like he was given all of the elements to make Halloween II the sequel is needed to be, and just kind of made an okay flick with it. Other than the one off classic Bad Boys, his filmography kind of speaks for itself 😂 So, why do I own three copies of a film I’m only just okay with? Why Scream Factory collectors editions and SteelbooKS FTW!!! @shoutfactory
