Mandy + Beyond The Black Rainbow (Blu-ray)

All right, it’s Halloween month (whaaaaat?), and it would be literal crime not to experience once again, this one two knockout punch by one of my favorite modern filmmakers, the one and only Panos Cosmatos. With only two features under his belt, Cosmatos is still a relatively new voice, but the sheer excellence and profound uniqueness of Beyond the Black Rainbow and Mandy are enough to put him on a serious pedestal. He definitely doesn’t make films for everyone, but his hallucinogenic, dreamlike aesthetics combined with his surreal atmospheric tendencies and love of the macabre have resulted in two of the best films of the last couple decades by my measure. They are also infinitely re-watchable. Absolutely love these films so much, and I can’t wait to see what Panos does next, I just hope it doesn’t take 8 years 😎🤘😁 What do you all think?
