Life (Blu-ray)

And last up on today’s Halloween movie madness is Life, one of the most underrated, under seen, under appreciated sci-fi horror films in recent years. This one arrived in theaters after a laughably half hearted promotional tour that started pretty much weeks before release. It didn’t work. Almost no one went to see this in theaters, despite critics being generally positive, but with its conservative budget the film ended up turning a small profit during its run. I think that, while hardly original, this is one of those films that will grow on people over time. Of course the production and special effects are top notch, and despite the fact that the film essentially plays like an extended version of the second half of Alien, this film has a lot of personality owing largely to the game, charismatic cast. For a film that the studios didn’t seem to care much for, it’s got a HELL of a cast. And then we get to the alien life form itself, and wow it is an epic one. Terrifying, hostile, exceedingly dangerous, this is easily my favorite alien since the Xenomorph. I kid you all not. I loved it that much. Overall class A horror sci-fi. What about you all?
