Does anyone else love single location films as much as I do? I’ve recently revisited Buried, The Divide, and Pontypool, as well as watched Brake for the first time. It appears I’m in something of a mood! So, after nearly 20 years, I figured it was finally time I revisit the Colin Ferrel fronted 2002 single location thriller, Phone Booth. Largely taking place in a single soon to be decommissioned telephone booth, the film walks a beautiful tightrope of tension, mystery, and high stakes with a flat out explosive performance from the uneven, at times sublime Ferrel. This one was just as high octane and full of fantastically colorful characters as I remembered, only quite a bit better. I remembered enjoying it, but this time around, I loved it. It’s also a bit of a time capsule in its own right, and while they probably still make them like this on occasion, I think it’s accurate to say they don’t make them like this one feels anymore. Super solid thriller, and a great mid career showcase of the now household name lead
