Pitch Black (Blu-ray + 4K UHD)

Item image

Hello all! I hope your week is going smoothly so far. I’m currently undergoing the joyful experience of having the roof of my apartment completely replaced, and it quite literally sounds like there is a war zone 10 feet above my head. Luckily for me, there are some movies that I’ve seen so many times, and enjoy watching so much, that I don’t really need to hear a thing 😂 Submitted for your approval, today we have one of Arrow Video’s very first entries into the 4K market, and I was actually quite surprised and delighted at their first choices. Pitch Black is an all time favorite, and has to be in my top 15 most watched films. It’s got a simple, effective premise, made cult legendary by the iconic and still best character of Vin Diesel’s career, Richard B. Riddick. While he would go on to make an actually awesome animated chapter, one dizzyingly over the top sequel, and a final (so far) stripped down entry that brought the character back to his roots, Pitch Black will always be the quintessential Riddick adventure. A perfect fusion of horror and sci-fi, desolate, sun bleached, and yes, pitch black. The film lives and breathes on the capable shoulders of the always amazing Radha Mitchell, and she is quite literally one of my favorite leads in a sci-fi film since Ripley. Capable, quick, flawed, and real, I can’t praise the character or performance enough. Vin Diesel embodies the vicious yet strangely intriguing, mysterious convict like it’s his very own skin. He really is a pitch perfect anti-hero, unpredictable, yet also familiar. The fusion of monster, slasher, and survival elements here are second to few. One of the best of the best, and one of the most pleasant surprise releases of the year. Still mad about the slipcover 😡😎😏 Who else is a fan? What’s your favorite Riddick adventure?

  • segaThe Mega Drive Is the Smartest Way to Start a Sega CollectionPick up a PAL copy of Streets of Rage 2 and the case still snaps shut the way it did in 1992. That one detail — Sega shipping games in hard plastic clamshells while Nintendo was still using cardboard — is half the argument for the Mega Drive as your first serious Sega collection. The other half: this was Europe's 16-bit machine, and today's PAL supply reflects it. Sega won Europe with the Mega Drive in a way it never managed in Japan. For a collector, that dominance means abundance: consoles, l
