The Net + Enemy of the State (Blu-ray)

Hey all! I know, I did indeed just post about The Net last week, but that was before a recent rewatch of the classic 90’s cyber thriller, Enemy of the State. As I was revisiting the film, and with The Net fresh in my mind, I couldn’t believe how well they complimented one another. Where The Net has a bit of a smaller scale, slightly more wholesome 90’s feel, Enemy of the State has a wider feeling, much more intense vibe, likely compliments of the late, great Tony Scott. Both films deal with the ever present fears associated with data security, privacy, and identity. Both films have their protagonist railroaded by the powers that be, and are sent on an extended chase to reveal the truth of their circumstances. Both are lead by young leads that would both go on to achieve continued superstar status. I’d say Enemy of the State is the superior film with the superior performances (although with the likes of Gene Hackman, Jack Black, Seth Green and Jamie Kennedy, the deck is kind of stacked against poor Sandra Bullock). But much of the Net was also filmed in my hometown, so it wins lots of points for that. How about all of you? Any fans of these? What’s your favorite “cyber thriller?”
