Thor + The Dark World + Ragnarok (Blu-ray + 4K UHD)

Hey all! Its another early Sunday morning here in the Bay Area, and the coffee is brewing to the sounds of true crime/paranormal news in the background. Perhaps it’s due to the fact that for the first time in over a decade, it’s been more than a few months between Marvel adventures, but I’m missing the MCU fiercely over the last few weeks. Thor is a lot like Hulk in the key way Marvel has, in my mind, mishandled the character’s overall execution. Three different films, three radically different tones, all three solid flicks hampered by their own unique, but often critical issues. The first was actually quite solid, a bit dry, kind of slow, but overall entertaining. In hindsight it feels largely inconsequential. Dark World was closer in tone to what I think the ultimate Thor depiction could be, dark, but fantastical and weighty. The movie itself is hugely underrated, and I am in the absolute minority placing it at the top of the trilogy. Ragnarok... oh Ragnarok. For the longest time I couldn’t stand this film. I can’t stand Taika Waititi. Something about his particular sensibilities just gets on my nerves. His humor does not land or connect with me in any way. That said, when you accept his 180 degree tonal bastardization of everything that went before, the movie can be a fun diversion. Its okay. Bottom of the MCU, but it’s an MCU film. I’m terrified and not looking forward to Love and Thunder in the slightest 😂😂😂Anyway, here’s a nice little snapshot of the Infinity Thor trilogy in all of its messy, inconsistent glory.
