Sea Fever (Blu-ray)

Are you a fan of underwater/ocean based horror? Do you count films such as The Abyss, Leviathan, Sphere, Triangle, Deepstar Six, or Deep Rising amongst your favorites? How about Cabin Fever or The Bay? If any of those films pique your interest, then you are in for a treat. Sea Fever is one of those films that came and went in a blink, and I think that’s quite a tragedy, as this is one of my favorite horror films of the last few years. As a baseline premise, a ship charts a course into forbidden waters before coming across something mysterious, and potentially deadly. Everything about this low budget, high yield exercise in mostly single location thrills works impeccably. The way it mixes small doses of Irish folklore, classic genre tropes, and top tier performances is second to few, particularly given the relatively low key scale of the project. By my measure, this is a 10/10 hidden gem of the highest order, the definition of underrated, and more importantly, under seen. How about all of you? Did anyone else catch this one? What’s your favorite aquatic based horror/thriller?
