Zgodovina: Fotoaparat je bil razvoj (in eden od dveh nadomestkov) Pentax ME. Oba imata polavtomatsko (prioriteto zaslonke) delovanje in sta del Pentax M serije, ki je vključevala ročni Pentax MX in na kratko polavtomatski, avtomatsko ostrenje Pentax ME F. ME Super je dodal ročni način v nabor funkcij ME. Ker je ME Super na tehnični ravni boljšega opisa kot ME, je hkrati bil uveden model nižje specifikacije, kot nadomestek za ME: to je bilo Pentax MV, kratek čas na tržišču, ki ga je hitro zamenjal Pentax MV1.
