Ultraviolet Glow Metroid Jakks Action Figure

To close the last Metroid Monday in November let’s have a close look at the new Ultraviolet Glow Metroid by @jakkstoys! It has finally been hitting GameStop stores across the country and I found myself a nice specimen! In the box, the figure looks amazing and shows its main trick of glowing under black light with a convenient set of lights built into the packaging that activate with the push of a button. This feature is enough for a hardcore collector to purchase one and leave it NIB. There is a lot of value put into the packaging. But it’s not an NTC review without unboxing! Out of the box, this is the same figure that Jakks previously released in its World of Nintendo line, except it has a few tweaks. Like the previous Metroid this fella also has articulation in its fangs. They can bend and rotate at the base allowing for some posing options. The paint and shell colors are nearly identical however that’s where the similarities end. The Ultraviolet Glow Metroid features a frosted shell that decreases its transparency. There are also veins painted on the shell that glow under black light. This same treatment is given to the polyps inside the Metroid shell and some surrounding muscles. I really like the idea of the glowing features however the veins on the shell look like cheap clip art and there wasn’t any attempt to at least attach these veins to the main body like an actual Metroid. Nevertheless, the glow feature is very cool and looks best in the packaging which is why this figure comes at a premium. Overall, this figure is a great improvement from its previous iteration, execution could have been a bit better for which I recommend keeping it in its box if you can find one in pristine condition. I give this figure 4 out of 5 stars, get it, you’ll be happy with it!
