Piranha Plant Super Mario 4” Jakks Figure

Let’s have a look at the Super Mario 4” Piranha Plant Figure by @jakkstoys. It’s been a long time coming for this figure but it also comes at a perfect time when Piranha Plant is controversially being added to the roster of Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The sculpt of this figure captures Piranha Plant very well like its 2.5” predecessors. It looks great at any angle! He’s got a very limited amount of articulation, however. He can rotate 360 degrees on his pipe. He can also open and close his jaw. But the most interesting point of his articulation is the 360 degree rotation point at the back of his head where the stem meets his head. He can actually have a sad and happy facial expression by turning his head 180 degrees. It’s quite neat. Going back to his jaw, the designers made a good call here to put a hinge on it to allow it to open its mouth, they even made his teeth angle inward to allow his mouth to shut completely without it detracting too much. Paint wise, Jakks has nailed down the quality of the paint application on these figures to a point where I didn’t notice any jarring flaws. I do think they could have pushed for more articulation with this figure in two ways. By giving the segment of his stem with the two leaves the ability to rotate along 360 degrees, and by giving the bases of each leaf ball joint articulation like they’ve done with the wings of the 4” Koopa Paratroopas so he can at least have some arm-like mobility like we see in his Smash Bros moveset. Imagine being able to helicopter this figure the way Piranha Plant does during his recovery in Smash? Overall this is a great figure with a great sculpt, paint application and good articulation, however, I do think they missed a few opportunities in making it an excellent figure. I give it 4 out of 5 stars, get it, you’ll be happy with it!
