Pikachu Mega Construx Figure

The @megaconstrux Jumbo Pikachu is all done. He is the new king of complex builds taking around 4 hours to build. One thing I liked about this build was how the bags were numbered and the directions led you through which bags to work with as the steps went on and clarified exactly what part of the build you were working on. I always had a small pile of pieces to work with. This was good foresight by Mega to help builders save some frustration. But that’s the extent of the frustration-saving aspects of this build. The final build leaves a lot to be desired, primarily in its articulations. Clunky neck and tail joints were among the most annoying. His head can move up and down along 3 or 4 lockable positions along a 45 degree radius. I say 3 or 4 because you have to work hard to snap his head into the farthermost positions due to parts of him in the way. This results in a Pikachu who can’t ever look up on all fours or down when standing because of the weight of his head coupled with parts of his inner workings in the way. The tail uses the same joint piece that can lock it into a series of positions along x and y axis, however it cannot rotate along a z axis. His tiny arms are about the most forgiving as they are set in ball joints and have a wide range of movement. His legs are also a bit more forgiving. They can bend at the hips to allow Pika to stand, sit, or crouch. They can also rotate to have his feet at angles or straight on. Ultimately, there is only three adequate positions to set him in which are clearly advertised on the box and the three positions are canon albeit very limiting. The thing I cannot get away from is the overall look of the figure. It’s ugly! Lost is the charm and cuteness associated with Pika and instead he appears lifeless and robot-like. Overall despite its complexity, building this figure was a pleasure, but limitations in its articulation and lifeless appearance take away from the lovable Pika. I give this release 2 out of 5 stars, you won’t miss it if you pass on it!
