Jack Nicholson (who was nominated for an Oscar for his performance) plays Jake Gittes, a sharp private detective who makes a living from the immorality in pre-war Los Angeles. When he is hired by a beautiful socialite (Fake Dunaway) to investigate her husband’s cheating, he stumbles unknowingly right into a tangle of lies and deceit. What initially seems like a simple case develops into a stew of political scandal, widespread corruption, and dark family secrets, and everything reaches its resolution one night in Chinatown. This groundbreaking film was awarded the Oscar and BAFTA prize for Best Original Screenplay and received a total of 11 Oscar nominations (including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director). Chinatown is a milestone within the classic film noir tradition and has a rightful place as one of the cornerstones in any film enthusiast's collection.
