It is the story of a middle-aged professor who comes to the USA in the years after World War II. After finding work, he rents a room from an elderly widow of his own age. He despises her from the first moment, but nonetheless marries her, just to get closer to her barely 13-year-old daughter; the seductive and provocative Lolita. Professor Humbert and Lolita set off together on a journey across the USA and through passion, madness - and murder! For 2 years Nabokov's work was totally banned in the USA, and both film adaptations faced fierce attempts to infringe on free speech. Kubrick's "Lolita" (1962) was kept toned down throughout, but the Catholic Church nonetheless demanded that it be banned. The newer version, which stays very close to the book, has Adrian Lyne as director (Oscar-nominated for "Fatal Attraction") and Jeremy Irons (Oscar winner for "Reversal of Fortune") in the lead role, but despite such big names the film was boycotted by all distributors in the USA - and in England, where politicians' threats to stop the film nearly caused Irons to leave the country for good. Now you have the opportunity to judge the film for yourself, before someone else does it for you. Region code 2 Edition Running time in minutes 132 Production year 1997
