Sound of Music / West Side Story

- This item is used Description Sound of Music The decades' most beloved classic with the lovely Julie Andrews as the singing governess who brings song and joy to the von Trapp family in Austria's beautiful alpine country. Five Oscars crowned this masterpiece, and its charm has never been equaled. Now you can watch it in a completely renewed version with top-quality colors and sound, Hammerstein's classic melodies, and Julie Andrews' superb interaction with Christopher Plummer - a fantastic experience for the whole family...! West Side Story In 1961 Leonard Bernstein's brilliant musical was transferred from Broadway stages to the film's magical universe, which - surprisingly enough - gave it another lift, propelling it to the very top echelons of film history. West Side Story was nominated for 11 Oscars in 1962, of which it won 10, including Best Picture! The story is a classic Shakespearean Romeo and Juliet tragedy: the lovely, innocent Puerto Rican Maria (Natalie Wood), sister to a harsh gang leader in New York's underworld, falls in love with Tony, who is reluctantly a member of a rival gang of American boys. Their love is strong, pure - and relatively short-lived - because their respective families are unable to accept love across their own ranks. The film is driven by an overwhelming intensity, which can be attributed both to the captivating music and to the fantastic choreography that completes the already mesmerizing experience.
