As a huge fan of Bomberman and its frenzy multiplayer battle royale mode, picking Wario Blast was a no brainer. Although the game remains faithful to its Bomberman roots, the nature of playing on Game Boy makes it a largely single player experience, and that’s not where this kind of game shines. Playing solo makes the game feel tedious, sluggish and slow... in a word: boring. The Wario theme is just an overall coat of paint, it could have been anyone instead for that matter, it wouldn’t have changed a thing. Although bombs kind of stuck with Wario in subsequent games, for some reason. Wario Blast benefits from the Super Game Boy, which was heavily promoted during the game’s release. It has a nice screen border and a 4 players mode, just like the SNES games... in that case, why not directly playing any SNES version of Bomberman, with better sounds, graphics and no reduced screen? It has always baffled me.
