Mortal Kombat II (Game Boy - Probe Software - 1994 - EUR)

Even if the company’s name is the same as the previous entry, it’s a whole different team behind the development of MKII. And it shows: it’s faster, more responsive, sounds better... it’s just a better game. I had once the opportunity to interview the programmer of the game (Cameron Sheppard) and he told me he only had four months to develop it before shipping for Christmas, without any prior knowledge of the franchise. He honestly did a great job: the game is fun as hell. Sure, it lacks backgrounds and characters, sure there are only three musics, but the controls are on point and graphics are good. A great addition in any MK fan’s collection (The interview of the programmer is available on « Pocket Fighter »’s Facebook page, in the article section).
