GOTTA GO FAST!!! Hey again! 👋 It’s another bright and early Sunday, I’m enjoying my coffee, and much to my dismay, the California sun is shining... way, way too much 😝☀️😭 That means it’s time for a relaxing day hunkered down away from the heat. Naturally, that also means enjoying a film or three! I’m a lifelong fan of Sonic, and although I grew up as both a Sega and Nintendo kid, with both iconic gaming titans having a near equal share in my heart, I always identified a bit more with that classic 90’s Sega attitude. I give most of the credit for that slight edge to the real blue blur, the one and only Sonic the Hedgehog. It would be impossible to articulate just how much I loved this character and those first four original games. It isn’t an exaggeration when I say that I played them for thousands of hours, beating each hundreds of times apiece. Even now, nearly 30 years later, I still play classic Sonic in the form of various compilation titles across several consoles, as well as Sonic Mania weekly. Every. Single. Week. When the live action Sonic the Hedgehog was announced, I was an odd mixture of ambivalent and annoyed, figuring there was no way anyone could bring my childhood hero to life in a satisfying way. The original design reveal cemented those feelings. This was going to be a disaster. How could I have imagined that one complete redesign and short delay later, we would be presented with one of my favorite movies of the year, easily one of the best outcomes for bringing the hedgehog with an attitude to life. I LOVED the film. It has heart, fantastic effects, a wonderful core story, Jim freaking Carrey returning to his prime, and a thorough, faithful understanding of what makes Sonic so classic. 10/10. I can’t wait for the sequel! Now can we please get Sonic Mania 2 or Sonic 5 please? How about all of you? Any fans of Sonic? Did you enjoy the film? What’s your favorite game?
