Aboard are Amanda Kelly, a young, beautiful American heiress. At her table in the restaurant car, she is joined by an old and very amiable midwife from England, Miss Froy. They quickly become good friends, but suddenly Miss Froy disappears without a trace. Amanda begs the other passengers to help her search, but they are curiously reluctant. They claim the woman never existed! Only photographer Robert Condon believes her.
